Career Prospects for a PhD

Education is now primarily linked to career prospects in that field of study. Many students prioritize the job market and demand over their passion and will when deciding which educational program to pursue and in which field. This has apparently hurt the true meaning of education which was once obtained only for learning what you liked. However given the level of competition and supply of labor in today’s world, this is unsurprising because each individuals is striving to live a luxury and comfortable life.

There are a number of misconceptions about some degree programs and fields of study that prevails over some regions of the world. For example, a common misconception is that students who pursue a degree in anthropology, philosophy or Literature cannot develop stable careers and will be good for academia only. When I was looking for people want Essay help UK, I came across a number of them who claimed that my career prospects would be limited to academia and research only. However, following are the career prospects that we have not heard of but have seen PhD graduates achieving them:
  1. Who does not dream of working at multinational corporations: Yes, PhD graduates are found in multinational corporations and in significant numbers. If we think deeply about the word doctor of philosophy, it demonstrates your expertise in a particular field. How can one expect a multinational corporation not hire someone who is an expert in, say, accounting or risk analysis. However, this misconception is true to an extent because some fields are useless for such large firms. Imagine an anthropologist working in a multinational insurance company!
  2. You do not need a qualification to become an entrepreneur: Entrepreneurship is the solution to every individual’s problems. You will find a huge range of success stories of people who were either college dropouts or never even attended college but touched the skies through business skills. You just need some experience, mind and risk-taking ability to start and run a business. Being a PhD, you can set up an excellent and innovative startup which could gradually expand thereby conducting research and publishing papers so you do not feel your skills being wasted!
  3. Research firms direly need you: There are firms whose main aim is solely to conduct researches in various fields. They are in search of individuals who have the strength to survive long hours of researching and writing. Undoubtedly, PhD graduates are ideal for this position and you can help such firms in a great way by demonstrating and applying the skills you learnt recently. While postgraduate students are also good in this, no individual can beat a PhD when it comes to research skills, focus and time management.
  4. Academia is always demanding you: Let us assume the entire world rejects you from multinational corporations to private and public research firms, you will always find a place in academia. Many PhD students prefer the fields in academia due to the fact that teaching is a piece of cake for them. It is just like sharing something they already own. I used to ask people to write my dissertation for me but still stand successful in academia.

Statistics show that only 3.7% of total PhD graduates remain unemployed immediately after they complete their program. You never know what they might be doing at home!
